Discussion:
Test-cmdlets failing on passive cluster nodes

Hi,

SCOM frequently reports errors when running test-cmdlets on our passive
Exchange database cluster node: "An error occurred when running the
Test-ExchangeSearch diagnostic cmdlet." Also, this error is shown for other
diagnostic cmdlets SCOM tries to run on the passive node and it does not make
sense to me that these diagnostic cmdlets are ran against the passive node as
they should be ran against the active node.
Can anyone help?

Thanks and regards

Does the Exchange Virtual Server fail over to a different node at the times
that you are seeing these alerts? There is a window where the Virtual
Server is still monitored by the passive server when workflows could run on
the passive server, before the monitoring of the Active Server is moved over
to the other agent. In the native MP planned for release later this year
this should be managed better.

Can you also check and see if the passive nodes are listed as mailbox
servers. Open Operations Manager Console, go to the monitoring pane and
open discovered inventory. Set the Target Type as "Microsoft Exchange 2007
Mailbox Servers Installation". If the physical nodes of the cluster are
showing up as this type then that is problem. Please get the latest version
of the MP from the Operations Manager MP Catalog and import it. Then after
a day, open operations manager command shell and run the command
Remove-DisabledMonitoringObject (see
http://blogs.msdn.com/boris_yanushpolsky/archive/2007/11/20/opsmgr-sp1-removing-instances-for-which-discovery-is-disabled.aspx
for more information on this commandlet.) This should cleanup the no longer
used instances of the mailbox installation.
