Discussion:
Monitoring Paged and non paged pool memory
(too old to reply)

Hi all,
can anyone tell me how I can create a performance view to monitor paged and
non paged pool memory on our exchange servers using SCOM 2007? I can create
performance views for other counters, but I can't get these to work. The
rules I'm trying to use are...
Memory Pool Paged Bytes 2008
Memory Pool Non-paged Bytes 2008

Any help would be great.
Cheers

Hello Lalorm,

Do you see the counter in the console, else you need to start create a collection
rule to collect the performance data from the machine.

Hi Anders,
thanks for your reply. What I'm doing is basically creating a performance
view and selecting the Windows Server Target which uses the Windows Core
Library management pack. I then select the group of servers to monitor
against and select the Collect by specific rules. I then select the
following rules from the list...
Memory Pool Non-Paged Bytes 2008
Memory Pool Pages Bytes 2008
I click ok and ok again and the performance view is saved. However I don't
see any counters to select to view in the lower right hand window.
Is there something else I need to set / do before I can get these counters
to work?
Cheers
Mike

You are going to want to use "Windows Server 2008 Operating System" as the
target for the performance view.
The Rules you mentioned to get Memory are targeted at this object type,
using the base class won't get you performance counters for those objects.

Hi Steven,

I tried your suggestion, however I still don't see those two rules. If I
select the Target as Windows Server 2008 Operating System and don't select a
specific rule, it gives me a load of counters to view and alot of memory
counters, but no paged and non paged pool counters. Am I missing something?

Cheers

Check the rules are enabled, in the authoring pane. I see those two are
disabled by Default in the base OS MP.

I know mine are disabled in SCOM 2007. I can't figure out how to get them
enabled. They are greyed out. I tried using the overrides and that didn't
work.
